Robert Woodhead, co-designer of the Wizardry series, returns for one last segment to talk about the later days of his time at Sir-Tech. We also talk about his efforts at copy protection, the Mac, hacking the Apple II, and why he didn’t like the 1541 (Commodore’s disk drive). We wrap up with a discussion of David W. Matt Chat 259: David Shelley and Laura Bowen on Seven Dragon Saga

The Gold Box games are making a comeback–at least, if David Shelley, Laura Bowen, and other SSI veterans have their way. Their company, TSI, will soon be launching a Kickstarter to fund their “Seven Dragon Saga,” a martial arts themed CRPG with good ol’ turn-based combat.

In this interview, Dave and Laura discuss and answer questions about the game. I end by quizzing these masters on their own games (thanks to a trivia card I found in my Pools of Darkness box!)

We talk about the behind-the-scenes drama with these titles before getting into Dwarves, a game based on Snow White that was cancelled after a year of production. We wrap up with a discussion of being a boss, and how to reject somebody’s ideas without making an enemy.

Matt Chat 256: Feargus Urquhart on the Fall of Black Isle

Feargus returns in part 3 of my 4 part interview. In this segment, we talk about the collapse of Black Isle in the wake of some questionable decisions on the part of Fargo and other execs–Interplay Sports, Engage, losing the D&D license, and some bad bets on consoles (Sega Saturn, anyone?). Despite the passage of time, Feargus is still quite emotional, and you can’t help but wonder what might have happened if the leadership had listened to him.

Games covered include Planescape: Torment, Fallout 3, Baldur’s Gate III, and Icewind Dale.
